About the Toothbrush
What makes the Soleya toothbrush different from a regular bamboo toothbrush?
Most bamboo toothbrushes still use nylon or other synthetic bristles.
Soleya takes a different approach.
Our toothbrushes combine a bamboo handle with natural animal-hair bristles, giving you an option for those looking to reduce synthetic materials in their daily oral-care routine.
Are the bristles really plastic-free?
Our horsehair and boar-bristle options do not use nylon bristles.
That's an important distinction, because many toothbrushes marketed as “bamboo,” “eco-friendly,” or “plant-based” still use synthetic bristles.
What is the handle made from?
The handle is made from natural bamboo.
Bamboo is lightweight, durable, and naturally suited to replacing conventional plastic toothbrush handles.
Horsehair or Boar Bristles?
What's the difference between horsehair and boar bristles?
The main difference is how they feel while brushing.
Horsehair
Softer and more flexible. A good choice if you prefer a gentler brushing experience.
Boar Bristles
Slightly firmer with a more traditional, substantial brushing feel.
If you're unsure which one to choose, we generally recommend horsehair for a softer feel and boar bristles if you prefer more firmness.
Which bristle should I choose for sensitive gums?
If you normally prefer softer toothbrushes, horsehair will generally be the better starting point.
As with any toothbrush, avoid brushing aggressively. Effective brushing doesn't require excessive pressure.
Do natural bristles feel different from nylon?
Yes.
Natural bristles don't have exactly the same uniform texture as factory-made nylon fibres.
During your first few brushes, they may feel noticeably different. Most people simply need a short adjustment period.
That's part of switching from a synthetic material to a natural one.
Hygiene & Safety
Is it hygienic to brush your teeth with animal hair?
This is understandably one of the most common questions people have before switching.
Our natural bristles are cleaned and prepared before being assembled into the toothbrush.
Just like any toothbrush, however, hygiene also depends on how you care for it after each use.
Rinse it thoroughly and allow it to dry properly between brushes.
How should I clean my toothbrush?
After brushing:

Rinse the bristles thoroughly under clean running water.

Gently shake off excess water.

Store the toothbrush upright in a well-ventilated area.

Allow the bristles to dry completely between uses whenever possible.
Avoid storing a wet toothbrush inside a closed container for long periods.
Can natural bristles develop an odour?
Because they're natural fibres, they need to be allowed to dry properly.
Keeping your toothbrush constantly damp or inside a closed container may encourage unwanted odours.
Good airflow between uses is therefore especially important.
Can the bamboo handle get mouldy?
Bamboo is a natural material, so it shouldn't be left sitting in water or stored permanently wet.
After brushing, rinse your toothbrush and keep it somewhere where both the handle and bristles can dry.
Avoid leaving it flat in a puddle of water around the sink.
Using Your Soleya Toothbrush
How do I use it?
Use it much like a conventional toothbrush.
Apply your usual toothpaste, brush gently for approximately two minutes, then rinse the toothbrush thoroughly.
You don't need to press hard against your teeth or gums.
Can I use my regular toothpaste?
Yes.
You can use the Soleya toothbrush with your normal toothpaste.
Can I use it with toothpaste tablets?
Yes.
It's also compatible with toothpaste tablets and similar solid oral-care products.
How often should I replace my toothbrush?
As with conventional toothbrushes, a toothbrush should generally be replaced approximately every 2–3 months, or sooner if the bristles become noticeably worn or damaged.
Will the bristles soften over time?
Natural bristles can gradually change in texture with repeated exposure to water and brushing.
Some softening over time is normal.
Replace the toothbrush once the bristles become significantly worn, damaged, or no longer comfortable to use.
Is it normal for a natural bristle to occasionally come loose?
An occasional loose bristle can happen with natural-bristle toothbrushes.
Natural fibres vary more than synthetic nylon filaments.

Sustainability
Isn't a bamboo toothbrush already plastic-free?
Not necessarily.
The handle might be bamboo while the bristles are still made from nylon or another synthetic polymer.
That's why we believe it's important to look at the entire toothbrush — not just the handle.
Why don't you use “plant-based nylon”?
Because “plant-based” doesn't automatically mean that the finished bristle is a natural fibre.
Some bio-based plastics can start with plant-derived feedstocks while the final material is still a type of synthetic polymer.
Soleya was created for customers looking for an alternative to conventional synthetic toothbrush bristles.
Is the entire toothbrush compostable?
The bamboo and natural bristles are very different from a conventional all-plastic toothbrush.
However, disposal can depend on the exact materials used to secure and assemble the toothbrush as well as your local composting requirements.
For that reason, we don't believe in making vague “throw the whole thing in your compost” promises.
Check your local composting guidelines before disposal.

We want you to feel confident trying something different.
That's why your order is covered by our 90-Day Return Policy.
If Soleya isn't right for you, contact us within 90 days of receiving your order and our team will guide you through the return process.
What if my order arrives damaged?
Contact our customer support team with your order details and, if possible, a photo of the issue.
